Byron Hinterland Villas is a self-contained villa stay at 20 Elliot Road in Clunes, set among macadamia orchards about 20 minutes north of Byron Bay, and it takes dogs by prior arrangement rather than as a blanket policy. Dogs at Byron Hinterland Villas

The published tariff is $10 per night per dog, or $63 per week per dog, with a maximum of two dogs per villa of any size. An extra cleaning fee applies if there is evidence of pets on the furniture or an excessive mess left behind. Dogs can stay inside the villa but are not permitted inside the pool enclosure, and they cannot be left alone in the accommodation while you go out, so plan day trips around the dog. The official policy also asks for up-to-date vaccinations and current tick protection, and for you to bring your own dog bedding, waste bags and towels.

The vibe

The villas are built for the quiet hinterland crowd: balconies with sunset views over the orchards, a shared pool and a tennis court, with the macadamia groves all around. Clunes village itself is a one-cafe-and-a-general-store hamlet, which is exactly the point of staying here.

Close by with the dogs

In the village, Clunes Cafe is the local coffee stop. Bangalow is 15 minutes south for WOODS Bangalow and its heritage streetscape. For a beach run, Belongil Beach South Dog Exercise Area is the closest off-lead sand to the villas. Getting there and parking

Clunes sits on the B62 between Lismore and Byron Bay, about 20 minutes from Byron Bay and 40 from the Gold Coast airport. The villas are on Elliot Road on the village edge with parking at each villa.
