3 Little Pigs is a big timber holiday house at 26 Shirley Street, managed by East Coast Escapes, a couple of minutes' walk from the centre of Byron Bay. It sleeps up to eleven across a main house plus a separate studio, with three bathrooms between them, so it is built for families and groups rather than couples, and it is one of the few large town houses this close to the centre that openly welcomes dogs.

East Coast Escapes lists the property as pet friendly, and the drawcard for dog owners is the fully fenced, sunny courtyard, which gives a dog secure outdoor space right in town. No weight limit is published, so larger dogs are not ruled out. What is not published is the fee structure and the fine print on indoor access: declare your dog when you book, ask the manager to confirm any pet surcharge and whether bedrooms and lounges are off limits, and get the answer in writing. Until you are told otherwise, treat the house as dogs-off-the-furniture.

The house itself

A heated magnesium salt pool, a covered outdoor pavilion and a barbecue dining area handle the outdoor hours, and inside there is a fully equipped kitchen, free Wi-Fi and on-site parking. The studio has its own ensuite, which is handy when one half of the group is on early dog duty. With a sandy dog in the mix, the covered verandas earn their keep as the wet-gear and towel zone before anyone comes inside.

Shirley Street puts the shops and cafes of Byron Bay an easy walk away and Main Beach about five minutes on foot. Check the signage before you settle at the town beach, because parts of it are on-lead only and parts prohibit dogs altogether.

Close by with the dogs

The Belongil Beach South dog exercise area is the sensible off-lead option, a short drive or a long walk from the house. Several town cafes keep outdoor tables where a settled dog is fine; Canteen is one of the walkable coffee stops.
