Daly's Clearing is a free, open pine forest campground in Belanglo State Forest, about 20 minutes from Bowral and 90 minutes from Sydney. Unlike the national parks along the coast, it sits on Forestry Corporation land, and NSW state forests allow dogs, which is the main reason it is worth the drive.
The pet policy. Dogs are welcome throughout the camping area, no booking and no fee for the site or your dog. There is no ranger checking leashes, but the forest asks dogs stay on-leash to protect wildlife and other campers nearby. Bring your own water for both of you: there is no potable water on site, only basic facilities such as toilets.
The place. It is a large, flat, open clearing among pines, big enough for tents, camper trailers and caravans to spread out. Campfires are generally allowed here, subject to the current fire ban status, so check before you rely on one.
Location & nearby. Access is via Belanglo Road and Dalys Road, usually fine in a 2WD car though conditions can change after rain. The forest has fire trails and tracks around the clearing for an on-leash walk before or after you set up. Bowral and the wider Southern Highlands are a short drive away for supplies or a coffee run.

Who it suits. Campers who want a no-fuss, no-cost base with their dog and do not need showers or powered sites. Less suited to anyone wanting hot water or a patrolled campground.
Go on a weekday if you want the clearing to yourself, and pack more water than you think you need. Check the Forestry Corporation site for current fire restrictions before you light anything.
