Runaway to Maleny is a small boutique glamping property of five pods on the Blackall Range at Balmoral Ridge, just outside Maleny. Rainforest, a creek with a fifty-metre swimming hole, platypus sightings at dusk and a sauna make it a proper hinterland escape, and dogs are allowed to stay, but only on request, so this is a stay you confirm before booking rather than one you turn up to.

Dogs at the property

The place

This is rustic glamping rather than a hotel: five secluded pods set among rainforest, a communal barbecue deck, a fireplace and a pool table, built for couples and nature lovers chasing quiet. It is not a retreat with pet amenities laid on, so pack your dog's own bed, bowls and food.

The location

The address is 1573 Maleny-Montville Road, on the main ridge road between Maleny and Montville, with on-site parking for guests. Maleny's town centre is a short drive and has a run of cafes with outdoor seating, including Whit N Whimsy. Gardners Falls and Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve sit within a few kilometres for on-leash walks, and Lake Baroon is close for a scenic loop. Go in the cooler months for the fireplace; summer suits the swimming hole.

While you're out there

The Mapleton dog park is a short drive up the ridge for an off-leash run, and the Maleny Trail links the district for a longer walk. If the pods are booked out, Jacaranda Cottages at Witta is the nearby alternative.
