Jacaranda Cottages

Jacaranda Cottages is a small group of self-contained cottages and a chalet on 5.5 acres outside Maleny, in Witta, QLD, with wallabies grazing the paddocks and ducks on the property pond. It is genuinely pet-friendly, but the policy has real conditions attached, so read the fine print before booking.

The pet policy. Dogs need prior written approval, not just a booking note. Expect an extra cleaning fee on top of a $500 bond. Dogs must stay off all furniture and out of bedrooms for the whole stay, and any damage, chewed blinds, stains, marks on walls, comes out of the bond. Bring your own food, bowls and bedding; the property does not supply pet gear.

The place. Cottages come with kitchenettes, and at least one has a spa bath and a fireplace, useful in the cooler Maleny hinterland nights. There is a fire pit on site for evenings outdoors. The wildlife (wallabies, ducks on the pond) is part of the drawcard, so keep dogs leashed around the grounds rather than letting them run at will.

Location and nearby. Witta sits a short drive from Maleny itself, where the main street has several dog-friendly cafes and restaurants for a coffee or dinner run, among them Whit N Whimsy and Maleny Lane. Baroon Pocket Dam and the Maleny Dog Park off-leash area are both within easy reach for a walk before you head back to the cottage.

Before you book. Confirm approval in writing before you arrive, not just at booking, and clarify the cleaning fee amount directly with the property. Good for settled dogs that are used to staying off furniture; less suited to dogs that chew or mark when left alone, given the damage liability.
