Maleny Lane

Maleny Lane is an open-air laneway food hall at 37 Maple Street, tucked behind the main street storefronts in the heart of the Sunshine Coast hinterland town. A clutch of street-food stalls surrounds a courtyard, so a group with different tastes can each order something different and sit down together, dog in tow. It runs Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 3pm, and closes Monday and Tuesday.

The dog setup

Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the courtyard and undercover seating, and there are plenty of laneway tables where a dog can settle beside you. Because the whole layout is largely outdoor and undercover, nobody minds a well-behaved dog at your feet while you graze across a few different vendors. The Lane 32 Woodfired Pizza Bar at the back of the laneway is dog-friendly too. Water bowls turn up sometimes, but bring your own to be sure, and it is not a place to feed your dog from the table.

The vibe and the food

The stalls cover a wide spread: dumplings, Indian curry, butter chicken and green chicken curry, crepes and lamb wraps, plus fresh juices and iced tea. The feel is casual and community-driven, with live music often on, and vendors who are used to chatting with their customers. It gets busy and crowded at peak times, so this suits a dog that is relaxed around people and other dogs rather than one that needs space.

Getting there and parking

Enter from the Maple Street footpath into the laneway. Street parking runs along Maple Street and fills on weekends, so come early on a Saturday if you are driving in from elsewhere on the range.

Nearby with the dogs

Pick a quieter weekday if your dog is crowd-shy, or a weekend if you want the buzz and the music. Either way, keep the lead short through the laneway entrance where foot traffic funnels in.
