Atkinsons Edgewater is a 25-acre bushland campground on the waterfront at Atkinson Dam, under new ownership and set up for boating, fishing and campfire weekends with the dog along.

The pet policy. Dogs are welcome across the property and can camp right at your site. There are no cabins here, only powered and unpowered camping and caravan sites, so every stay is dog-eligible by default. Dogs must be kept on a lead and supervised at all times, partly because there are farm animals on the property. The place. Fifty-plus absolute waterfront sites, a boat ramp, a small cafe and convenience store, fire drums for campfires, and an undercover pool. Bring your own dog bowls, food and drinking water, the on-site store only covers basics.

Location and nearby. The park sits on Atkinson Dam itself, off the Brisbane Valley Highway, an easy drive from Brisbane and the Lockyer Valley. Lakeside tracks along the water's edge are good for leashed walks, but dogs cannot swim in the dam. Seqwater's rules for the wider recreation area keep dogs to the day-use areas on lead, not the foreshore or boat ramp.

Who it suits. Campers and caravanners wanting a waterfront base for boating and fishing with the dog, rather than travellers after a cabin or resort-style stay.
