The ReTrO Beach Shack

The ReTrO Beach Shack is a retro styled beach house on Gordon Street at Aldinga Beach, on Adelaide's southern coast, and it is built for exactly the kind of trip where the dog comes too: walk to the sand in the morning, fish and chips in the evening, repeat. With room for the family and a relaxed coastal layout, it suits long weekends as much as full week stays.

The venue's own pricing and availability page sets the pet terms, so you can plan with real numbers. Up to two dogs are permitted per stay, and they must be well behaved, the owners' words as much as ours. Budget for the fees: a pet fee from $15 per day plus an $80 cleaning fee per stay. Booking channels also note vaccination requirements, so have proof of vaccination handy when you book or check in.

Two dogs and a fee structure that is spelled out up front is a straightforward deal compared to many holiday rentals, where the pet policy only surfaces after you have asked. Confirm the dog count when you book so the cleaning fee is right from the start.

The vibe

The retro styling is the personality of the place, and guests consistently rate it highly. Aldinga Beach itself is a quiet stretch of the Fleurieu Peninsula, with the wine country of McLaren Vale a short drive inland, so days split easily between sand and cellar doors. Given the dog is part of the booking, mornings and evenings belong to the beach.

Getting there and parking

The shack is on Gordon Street, Aldinga Beach, under an hour's drive from Adelaide along the southern expressway route, with off street parking at the property. The beach esplanade and the local shops are both within easy walking distance.

While you're out there

Give the dog a proper run at Symonds Reserve Fenced Dog Park, and Breeze Cafe & Bar is the local coffee stop. If the shack is booked out, Aldinga Beach Holiday Park is another stay option in the suburb.
