Al Maghrib

Al Maghrib is a Moroccan breakfast and lunch house at 32 Fitzmaurice Street in Wagga Wagga, serving tagines, shakshouka and mint tea to a steady local crowd. Dogs are welcome at the paved footpath tables out the front, which makes it one of the few North African options in the Riverina where a dog can sit in with you.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the front footpath seating, not inside. Staff often bring water bowls out for visiting dogs, though on a hot Riverina afternoon it is still worth packing your own. The tables sit on a working street with passing traffic and foot traffic, so a dog that settles around noise will have the better time of it.

What to order

The menu runs from breakfast through to mid-afternoon, closing at 3pm Tuesday to Sunday with Mondays dark. Shakshouka with poached eggs baked into tomato, capsicum and Moroccan spices anchors the morning menu, while the lamb tagine, slow-cooked with saffron, honey, prunes, cinnamon and almonds, is the signature. Both tagines are tagged gluten-free and dairy-free on the menu, and there is a solid gluten-free range across the board alongside mezze plates, couscous and traditional mint tea. Homemade bread and the cakes and macaroons up front do the damage at the counter.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Fitzmaurice Street and the surrounding blocks, though it can tighten up mid-morning. Car parks off Sturt and Morrow Streets are an easy two-minute walk with a dog on lead, and the walk in is flat.

Close by with the dogs

Wagga Beach and the Murrumbidgee riverside tracks are a short stroll away for an on-lead walk before or after your meal, and the Chaston Pet Hub gives dogs a proper run when you have the time.
