Bloom

Bloom is a daytime restaurant in a converted century-old tram barn at 38 Winwood Street, Thebarton, right on the edge of the River Torrens, and its garden and pavilion seating out back is where dogs are welcome. The venue's own house rules make the dog policy explicit: pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome in the outdoor dining spaces, where the floor staff are known to make a fuss of them.

The dog setup

Book or ask for an outdoor table, because the indoor dining room is people-only. The garden sits among trees with plenty of shade and opens onto the public path along the river, so keep the lead short at the edges where walkers and bikes pass close to the tables. Water bowls are generally provided, but bring your own for a long sitting on a hot day.

The vibe

The kitchen cooks over hot coals, which gives the brunch and lunch plates a smoky depth: pork sausage croissants, house burrata, and rotating seasonal dishes, with coffee from local roaster 1645 and a solid list of South Australian wine and cocktails. Hours run 8am to 3:30pm Monday and Thursday, 8am to 3:30pm plus a 5:30pm to 11pm service on Friday, and 8:30am to 4pm weekends, with Tuesday and Wednesday closed. The kitchen stops before the doors do, so aim early for food.

Max: Ask for a garden table away from the river path and the staff will find your dog before you have sat down.

Getting there and parking

Thebarton is a few minutes west of the Adelaide CBD. There is a large car park just across the footbridge, street parking on Winwood Street and the surrounding blocks, and the venue is fully wheelchair accessible, entrance and seating included.

Close by with the dogs

The River Torrens Linear Park path runs right alongside, so an on-lead walk before brunch is built into the visit, and the fenced dog park at River Torrens Linear Park in Torrensville is minutes away for an off-leash run.
