A historic country pub on Warrenheip Street in Buninyong, on the southern edge of Ballarat. Dogs are welcome outdoors - in the beer garden, the lawn area and at the footpath seating - so it works as a comfortable stop with the dog after a walk on Mount Buninyong.

The dog setup. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor alfresco and garden areas and on the footpath seating out front, not inside. There is a log fire indoors, so the outdoor spots are the ones to aim for with a dog. Bring your own water bowl to be safe, and call ahead if you want to be sure there is room in the beer garden on a busy day.

Good to know. It is a traditional pub kitchen - generous servings of classic pub food, with local wine and a solid beer list, in a casual fire-lit setting popular with locals and visitors.

Getting there. On Warrenheip Street in the centre of Buninyong. The pub has its own car park, with free street parking generally available along Warrenheip Street as well.

Nearby with the dogs. Mount Buninyong's dog-friendly walking trails are a few minutes' drive away, and the Buninyong Botanical Gardens are a short on-lead walk. The main street also has dog-friendly cafes for a coffee before or after.
