Jasmine House runs as an Aussie-style cafe by morning and an authentic Thai kitchen for lunch and dinner from 360 Raymond Street in central Sale, one of Gippsland's better-reviewed small-town kitchens. Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front, so it suits a meal with the dog parked beside you rather than a long indoor sitting.

The dog setup

Dogs go at the outdoor footpath tables along Raymond Street; the indoor dining room is people only. There is no dog menu, so bring your own water bowl. It is a busy corner of the main street, so a dog that settles beside foot traffic will do best. Call ahead on (03) 5146 6370 to confirm a pet-friendly table is free, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.

Worth knowing

The Thai side of the menu is the draw: larb gai, satay skewers with house-made peanut sauce, green curry, roti and satay noodles, with gluten-free and vegan options available and homemade cakes and coffee earlier in the day. Hours run 11am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, with the kitchen closed on Sundays.

Getting there and parking

Kerb space on Raymond Street out front is limited. The easier option is the car park behind the old Woolworths and IGA complex, about a four-minute walk away, leaving the walk down the main street as a bonus sniff for the dog.

Close by with the dogs

Sale's dedicated dog park is close by for an off-lead run before lunch, and Sale Common Nature Conservation Reserve offers a leashed walk through freshwater marsh and woodland on the edge of town. Redd Catt and Shirleys Cafe and Bar keep the dog-friendly cafe options going in the same block.
