Apollo Food Bar

Apollo Food Bar is a counter-service takeaway and eatery at 191 Ramsgate Road, Ramsgate Beach, serving burgers, seafood and comfort food from 7am to 8pm every day. Dogs are allowed at the outdoor seating out front, so it slots neatly into a walk along the Ramsgate Beach strip and Cook Park with the dog on lead.

The dog setup

The outdoor seating is a casual set of tables out the front of a busy local takeaway, not a courtyard, so space is limited and foot traffic is constant. Keep your dog leashed and close to the table, and bring your own water bowl as nothing is guaranteed. Order at the counter and grab the table first on busy evenings, because the seafood demand builds quickly around dinner.

Pepsi: Counter-service means someone in your group holds the table while the other orders. Pick the table furthest from the queue and I will settle straight away.

The food

The Portuguese burger is the headliner, backed by old-style burgers, chicken burgers, fish and chips, potato scallops, bbq chicken and chips, and a seafood salad with calamari and fish cocktails. It is classic, generous beachside takeaway food rather than cheffy plates, and it travels well if you would rather carry a paper-wrapped bundle to a park bench.

Getting there and parking

Apollo Food Bar sits on Ramsgate Road in the Ramsgate Beach shopping strip, a short walk from the Botany Bay foreshore and Cook Park, with free street parking on Ramsgate Road and the surrounding streets. It can be competitive at dinner time, so the coastal walk-and-eat approach often beats driving in circles.

While you're out there

Cook Park runs along the water either side of the shop, and the Sans Souci Beach Walking Path continues the on-lead foreshore route north towards the cafes at Sans Souci and Monterey.
