Little Shack

Little Shack sits right on the waterfront at Munster Street in Port Macquarie, and the view does half the work: river outlooks, sunset over the water, and a deck that hums from breakfast through to dinner service. Hours are long, running from 6:30am most days with later close on Friday and Saturday, so it covers everything from a dawn coffee to a slow seafood dinner.

Dogs on the lawn

Visitors consistently report that dogs are welcome across the venue's outdoor seating, and there is plenty of it: alfresco tables along the front plus a lower lawn area where dogs can stretch out properly. Water bowls are reported to be scattered around the outdoor seating, which matters when you settle in for a long lunch. As always with a busy waterfront spot, keep your dog leashed and close, because waitstaff and prams share the same path.

The vibe

The menu leans coastal without being precious. Fish tacos and fish and chips are the obvious picks, the lobster roll has a reputation of its own, and there is usually live music to carry the evening along. Between the water views and the easy going service, it is the kind of place where plans to stay for one drink quietly dissolve.

Getting there and parking

You will find it at 1a Munster Street, close to the town centre, with parking around the surrounding streets. It is an easy stroll from the waterfront paths, which makes it a natural finish point for a dog walk along the river.

Make a day of it

Before lunch, give the dog a proper run at Stuart Park Fenced Dog Park, or cool off at Nobbys Beach. Come evening, the Tacking Point Tavern is another dog friendly standby in town, and Ruins Cafe covers the morning after.
