Chuck Wagon Food Village

Chuck Wagon Food Village is an open-air food-truck hub at 7 Station Street in Pakenham, a two-minute walk across from Pakenham Station. Because the whole setup is outdoors under communal picnic tables, it is one of the easiest dinner runs in the outer southeast with a dog in tow: leashed dogs are welcome in the courtyard, and there is no indoor section to negotiate at all.

Seating is shared picnic tables in an open, gravel-and-paved space, so there is room to settle your dog beside the bench rather than in the walkway between tables and trucks. Staff are used to dogs and generally accommodating, but water is not always laid on, so pack a collapsible bowl. The casual, open-air format also means noise and passing traffic of kids and prams, so a dog that is settled around crowds will do best here.

The vibe

A rotating line-up of food trucks covers the crowd-pleasers: BBQ, burgers and bao buns among them, with the butter chicken burger, pulled pork burger and ribs coming up repeatedly in local write-ups. It is a family-friendly, dinner-time scene rather than a quiet meal, running Thursday to Sunday evenings from around 5pm to 9pm, which keeps the dog-friendly window predictable: if the trucks are on, the courtyard is open.

Getting there and parking

The station-side location makes this one of the easier Pakenham venues to reach without a car, and free parking is available nearby if you are driving in with the dog. If you are coming off the train, it is genuinely a two-minute walk from the platform.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-lead run before dinner, the Don Jackson Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a short drive away, and the Cardinia Aqueduct Trail gives you a longer leashed walk option. If the trucks are off for the night, Oven Kraft Cafe/ Restaurant is another Pakenham stop on the list.
