Salt & Oak

Salt & Oak sits at 251 West Coast Drive in North Beach, right across from the sand in Perth's northern coastal suburbs. It works as a cafe from early morning and as a whisky bar by night, and the outdoor terrace out front is where dogs are welcome, which makes it a natural stop on a coastal walk.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor footpath seating facing West Coast Drive, where the ocean outlook comes standard. Indoor dining is for people only, as with most food venues. Staff will often bring water out, but a portable bowl is worth packing on a warm afternoon. Keep your dog leashed and settled clear of the footpath.

The vibe

Doors open at 6am for the post-walk coffee crowd, with breakfast and brunch plates such as Turkish eggs and smashed avo through the day. From Thursday the kitchen runs into dinner, and the back bar takes over with a whisky selection and cocktails. Weekend mornings are lively on this strip, so daytime weekdays are the calmest window for a dog that prefers quiet.

Getting there and parking

Hours run 6am to 3pm Monday to Wednesday and 6am to 9pm Thursday to Sunday. Street parking along West Coast Drive fills fast on sunny days, and the venue sits directly on the coastal path, so walking in from nearby streets is often easier than circling for a spot.

Close by with the dogs

The North Beach Dog Beach, where dogs can run off-lead around the clock between Castle and Margaret Streets, is a short stroll south along the coast path. For a fenced run, the Charles Riley Memorial Reserve Fenced Dog Park is just inland, and Lawley's Bakery Cafe on Flora Terrace is another dog-friendly table nearby.
