Trigg Dog Beach

Trigg Dog Beach is a 24-hour, year-round off-leash beach in the City of Stirling, running south from Peasholm Street towards the Floreat Drain along West Coast Drive. It is one of Perth's most popular off-leash beaches: wide sand, real waves and full-time freedom, drawing a strong local dog crowd any day of the week.

Leash status

Off-leash is permitted only within the signed exercise area. Dogs must stay under effective voice control at all times and you must carry a leash with you even while it is off. Poop bags are compulsory and fines apply if you do not clean up. Dogs are not allowed in the children's playground, on the primary dunes or in any nearby swimming-only zone, so keep to the signed dog beach stretch.

Max: carry your lead even off-leash. Rangers do check, and you will want it handy near the playground and dune edges where the off-leash rules stop.

Water and terrain

The beach is reasonably wide, but a high tide eats into the running space quickly, so check the Perth tide times if you want maximum sand. It gets windy here too: the off-leash stretch picks up some shelter from the afternoon sea breeze but not much, so expect sand in the teeth on a fresh south-wester. The surf is genuine ocean beach, better for swim-strong dogs than nervous paddlers.

Getting there and parking

Free parking runs along West Coast Drive and in the dedicated lot near the Peasholm Street entrance, with a roughly 300 metre gravel and dune track down to the sand. Transperth bus route 425 runs along West Coast Drive with stops near the access points. The northern car park fills fast on weekends and summer evenings, so aim for early morning or a weekday if you want a spot close to the entrance. Waste bag dispensers, bins and some seating sit within the exercise area, the main access track is floodlit for evening visits, and public toilets are available on West Coast Drive.

When to go

Early mornings bring the regulars and the calmest breeze window; summer evenings are busy and social but crowded. Weekdays outside school hours are the easiest time to get both a park and a clear patch of sand. On a low tide, plan the visit around the extra running width.

While you're out there

Canteen Trigg and Island Market Trigg both sit on West Coast Drive with outdoor tables that welcome dogs, an easy rinse-and-coffee loop from the sand. Another off-leash option runs just south: Peasholm Dog Beach continues the dog-friendly sand up the coast towards Scarborough.
