The lead. The South Eastern Hotel on Penola Road is a family-owned pub with a dog-friendly beer garden, which is the spot to head for if you are bringing the dog. It is a big, busy local with a bistro, a sports bar and an indoor kids' play area, and the alfresco area is where dogs are welcome.

Nearby with the dogs. Blue Lake (Warwar) is a few minutes' drive with walking tracks, and the Umpherston Sinkhole (Balumbul) is a short drive for an on-lead wander.

Aim for the beer garden in warmer weather and milder evenings. Good for relaxed dogs who settle through a long pub meal.
