Pops Cafe Bar Mount Eliza

Pops Cafe Bar is the all-day neighbourhood player on the Mount Eliza village strip at 34 Ranelagh Drive, running from 6:30am coffee through to licensed afternoon drinks. The kitchen spans everything from French toast and eggs benedict to chicken parma, pork belly and butter chicken, and the draw for dog owners is a large, partly shaded rear courtyard where dogs are properly welcome rather than merely tolerated.

The dog setup

Dogs have two zones: the spacious rear courtyard and the front footpath tables. Both are open air, and the courtyard has enough room for a dog to settle without blocking foot traffic. Staff are dog-friendly and water bowls are available, with the occasional dog treat for regulars. Inside stays humans only, so on hot or wet days check the courtyard is covered before you commit.

Worth knowing

The menu is wider than the cafe tag suggests. Brunch classics sit alongside pub-style lunches, and there is a separate run of Indian street food and classics like samosas and butter chicken. The bar pours tap beer, spirits and Mornington Peninsula wines, which makes the courtyard a genuine afternoon option rather than a breakfast-only stop. Hours are 6:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm weekends.

Getting there and parking

Ranelagh Drive is the main strip through Mount Eliza, with free street parking out front and a free off-street area close by. It gets busy on weekend mornings with the brunch crowd, so earlier is easier with a dog in tow. The strip itself is good for a post-brunch wander on lead.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-lead run before breakfast, John Butler Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the closest fenced option, and Half Moon Bay Beach Dog Off Leash Area covers a beach leg. Fellow dog-friendly stops on the strip include Ezra Next Door and Sunny Days Cafe and Ice Creamery.
