Mount Compass Hotel

Mount Compass Hotel is the country pub on Victor Harbor Road, at the corner of Nangkita Road, and the classic halfway stop for anyone driving between Adelaide and the south coast. It is a family-friendly tavern known for generous pub meals and live music on some nights, and dogs are welcome in the sheltered outdoor beer garden out the back, with a view over the surrounding hills.

Dogs join you in the outdoor dining area only; assume the indoor bar and dining rooms are people-only, as is standard for a licensed venue serving food. Worth knowing

The kitchen leans traditional and the portions are generous: the chicken schnitzel and the bangers and mash are the local call-outs, with scotch fillet and barramundi covering the rest of the board at solid value. Doors open from 11am daily, running late from Wednesday through the weekend. Indoors there are gaming and sports screens; the draw for dog owners is that back beer garden.

The hotel is at 36 Victor Harbor Road, Mount Compass, with free off-street parking directly out the front and side. Access is easy even towing a caravan, which matters because the Fleurieu caravan crowd passes straight through. It sits about a one-hour drive south of the CBD on the way to Victor Harbor and Port Elliot.
