Blue Marlin Takeaway Maleny

Blue Marlin Takeaway was the fish-and-chip shop at 1/8 Maple Street in the Riverside Centre end of Maleny's main strip, serving battered fish, snapper, fish burgers, potato scallops and steak burgers from a counter-service setup with a few outdoor tables out front. Heads up before you drive out: the Google listing now marks it permanently closed, and its own website has been offline since at least September 2026, so check whether it has reopened under new operators before a special trip.

The dog setup while it traded

When it was trading, dogs were welcome on leash at the outdoor tables out front, and the takeaway counter made the natural play simple: grab a parcel of chips and eat it outside or walk it down the hill. There was no indoor dining to speak of, no water bowl reliably out front, and the small footpath area suited a settled dog rather than a restless one.

Max: chips by the creek with the platypus watching. That is a Maleny memory worth keeping, even if the shop is gone.

What made it worth a stop

It traded on fresh, well-cooked fish and chips at fair value, generous portions and chicken salt on the chips, with a following among locals and visitors heading to Obi Obi Creek. The platypus viewing platform on the Obi Obi boardwalk is still a short walk from the Maple Street strip, and it remains one of the nicest places on the Sunshine Coast hinterland to eat a paper-wrapped meal on lead beside the water.
