Harry's Cafe de Wheels Liverpool is the southwestern Sydney branch of the pie institution that has been trading in Sydney since 1938, serving pies, hot dogs and mash from a counter-service shop at Shop 1, 20 Orange Grove Road. For dog owners the pitch is simple: outdoor tables out the front, its own free car park, and the kind of food you can eat one-handed while the dog lies at your feet. It is an easy stop on a Liverpool day out rather than a destination diner.

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which is the tables on the paved space directly in front of the shop. It suits dogs that will settle calmly beside a bench, because this is counter service: you order, take a number and sit, so there is no table-service dance to manage with a lead in hand. Staff are generally relaxed about dogs out front, but bring your own portable water bowl to be safe, and keep the dog clear of the order window queue at busy times.

The name to know is the Tiger, the Harry's signature built on a beef pie topped with mash, mushy peas and gravy, alongside loaded hot dogs, sausage rolls and a broad pie range running from steak to chicken to vegetarian. Chips with gravy is the classic side. Hours run long: 9:30am to 10pm Monday to Thursday, to 12:30am on Friday and Saturday nights, and from 10am Sundays, so late-night pie runs are part of the deal here.

Getting there and parking

The shop is at Shop 1, 20 Orange Grove Road, Liverpool, with its own free car park right at the door, which is the practical reason to choose it over strip parking with a dog in the car. Liverpool station and the Bigge Street side of the CBD are a short walk away.

Close by with the dogs

Bulldog Park is the suburb's dedicated dog park for an off-lead run before the pies, and Bigge Park is the on-lead walking option closer to the centre. For the coffee stop either side, Bigge Espresso and Ristretto and Co are the local dog-friendly tables.
