Max: the takeaway route is the winner here. Fish and chips on the grass at the beach end of the street beats waiting for a table, and I get the first bite either way.

Hours run 11am to 7:30pm Sunday to Thursday and until 8pm Friday and Saturday, so it is a lunch-and-early-dinner spot rather than a late one. Getting there and parking

Lennox Head's main strip is easy to reach from the Pacific Highway via Ballina or Byron Bay, and the shop sits right on the main street. On-street parking runs along Ballina Street and fills quickly in summer; council carparks sit behind the shops on either side of the strip.

The off-leash section of Seven Mile Beach near the Seven Mile Beach dog beach car park is minutes away, and the Lennox Head Boardwalk gives you an on-lead coastal walk to work up an appetite. If you want a sit-down option instead, Chido Cantina on the same street does outdoor tables where dogs are welcome, and Papaya is a solid breakfast stop nearby.
