The Airlie Beach store is the original Hog's Breath, and its outdoor footpath seating takes dogs, which makes it a straightforward family dinner stop when the dog is on holiday with you.

The menu is built around the signature 18-hour slow-cooked prime rib, with pork ribs, burgers, chicken parmigiana and barramundi filling out a broad casual list. Lunch service runs from 11am midweek with later closes on weekends, and live music comes through on busy nights. The tone is relaxed and family-friendly, good for people-watching over the main street.

The address is 261 Shute Harbour Road, the main street of Airlie Beach. Free street parking and nearby off-street options sit within a short walk, and the venue is an easy stroll from the lagoon precinct and most central accommodation, so it chains neatly onto a foreshore walk with the dog.

Note that the lagoon precinct itself is strictly dog-prohibited, lawns included, so plan the swim for the dog elsewhere. The Airlie Beach Boardwalk is the natural on-lead walk, running several kilometres along the coast towards Coral Sea Marina, though watch the boardwalk surface on hot afternoons. For off-lead time, the eastern end of Shingley Beach allows it, Boathaven Beach permits off-lead on the sand in the early morning window, and the Cannonvale Dog Exercise Area is the designated reserve a short drive away. Rufus & Co. Cafe handles the morning coffee with the dog along.
