Kalye Marinas Filipino Grill and Seafood brings proper Filipino cooking to Shop 4/112 Pakington Street, Geelong West, and it has quietly become one of the strip's most talked-about tables. The draw is the messy-style seafood boil, dumped on the table with house-made garlic butter or Cajun sauce, plus sizzling sisig, pork BBQ skewers and street-food platters. Outdoor seating out front is where diners with dogs sit, and the Pakington Street setting does the rest.

The dog setup

Dogs are allowed at the outdoor seating areas, and visitors regularly report staff going out of their way for diners with dogs, so this is a genuinely welcoming stop rather than a grudging one. The outdoor tables sit along the street frontage, so keep your dog tucked in close to the table and out of the footpath traffic on Pakington Street. Bring your own water bowl to be safe, and a dog that settles around other diners will have an easier time here than a restless one.

Worth knowing

The menu runs well beyond the seafood boil: silog breakfast plates, fishballs and spring rolls for sharing, and the Kalye Mix halo-halo with sweet beans, jellies, leche flan and ube ice cream for dessert. Hours are generous for a suburban strip shop, opening from 11am daily and running to 9pm on Friday and Saturday, though the kitchen closes half an hour before the doors. The Geelong branch also does online ordering through the venue's store page if you would rather take the boil home.

Getting there and parking

Pakington Street is Geelong West's main eat-and-shop strip, about ten minutes' walk from the CBD. On-street parking runs along Pakington Street and the side streets, though it pays to arrive a little before the dinner rush on weekends. Buses run along Pakington Street regularly if you are coming from central Geelong without a car.

Close by with the dogs

The strip itself is the after-dinner walk, and there are dog-friendly options all along it. The Cork Bar and Bottles And Barrels cover the drinks end of Pakington Street with outdoor tables, while Two Sisters Cafe is the reliable daytime coffee stop with the dog.
