Cabra Street Food & Burgers

Cabra Street Food & Burgers is a food van operation now listed at 154 Whylandra Street, Dubbo, on the Discovery Parks caravan park grounds on the city's western side, after earlier stints on Bultje Street. It trades evenings only, from 5pm to 8pm across the week, and turns out gourmet burgers, signature loaded fries and loaded hot dogs to a steady local following. The open-air setup takes dogs, so a feed here can sit at the end of a walk rather than instead of one.

The dog setup

Dogs are allowed in the open-air, street-level seating area, on lead and under control. There is no enclosed dining room to worry about, which makes the logistics simple. Bring your own water bowl, as dedicated bowls are not kept out for visiting dogs. Because it is a van operation, it pays to check their Facebook page before heading out in case trading shifts on a given night.

The vibe

The kitchen is halal-friendly and built around indulgence: the signature loaded fries come topped with liquid cheese, grilled chicken, beef rashers and a pair of house sauces, while the burger list runs from the Cabra beef burger to the double-patty Deluxe with onion rings. Prices stay in the thirteen to twenty dollar range and service is quick, so it works as either a takeaway run or a casual sit at the outdoor tables. Families and groups dominate the evening crowd.

Getting there and parking

The van parks on the Whylandra Street side of the Discovery Parks grounds, a few minutes drive west of the Dubbo CBD on the Newell Highway corridor. Free parking is available on site and in the surrounding streets, and the site is flat and easy with a dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Macquarie River walking tracks are a short drive back towards town for a post-burger stroll, and Buckingham Dog Park gives the dog a proper off-lead run nearby. For coffee the next morning, Patricks is a Dubbo favourite.
