Taphouse Mulberry Estate

The Taphouse at Mulberry Estate is a large, casual venue on Hamersley Road in Caversham, in the Swan Valley wine region north-east of Perth. The draw for dog owners is space: an expansive beer garden and lawns running down toward the Swan River, all of it dog-welcome. It suits a long, low-key lunch rather than a quick stop, opening Thursday and Friday from 11am to 4pm and weekends from 11am to 5pm.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on lead across the outdoor beer garden, the courtyard and the lawn areas leading to the riverbank; the venue's own policy keeps pets strictly outdoors, so the interior restaurant is for humans only and you should plan on an outdoor table. There is plenty of shade under mature trees, which matters on a hot Swan Valley afternoon. Water bowls are often out, but bring a collapsible bowl so you are not relying on it.

Max: Burgers and Gage Roads on the lawn with the dog sprawled in the shade, mini-golf for the kids afterwards. Easy afternoon.

The food and drink

The kitchen runs to Australian pub food: burgers, seafood and sharing platters, with local Gage Roads beers on tap alongside the estate's own wines. Beyond the table there is mini-golf and a playground, so the venue leans family and can get lively on weekends, which suits an easygoing dog and tests a nervous one. A quieter bet is a weekday or early weekend sitting.

Getting there and parking

The venue is on Hamersley Road, Caversham, a short drive from Guildford and the Swan Valley food strip, with on-site parking. If you are pairing it with winery stops along West Swan Road, the drive is easy and you can plan a dog-friendly run at a fenced park on the way home.

Close by with the dogs

The Whiteman Park fenced dog park is a short drive south, a fully fenced off-leash space with a separate small-dog enclosure. Nearby dog-friendly pours include Riverbank Estate in the same suburb and Ugly Duckling Wines up the road, and Swan Valley Station in Henley Brook is the other dog-friendly outdoor eating spot in the valley.
