The Taphouse at Mulberry Estate is a large, casual riverside venue on Hamersley Road in the Swan Valley, and the draw for dog owners is the space: an expansive beer garden and lawns running down toward the Swan River, all of it dog-welcome. It suits a long, low-key lunch rather than a quick coffee stop.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on a lead across the outdoor beer garden, the courtyard and the lawn areas leading to the riverbank. The interior restaurant space is for humans only, so plan on an outdoor table. There is plenty of shaded seating under mature trees, which matters on a hot Swan Valley afternoon. Water bowls are sometimes out, but bring a collapsible bowl so you are not relying on it.

Good to know. The kitchen runs to Australian pub food (burgers, seafood, platters) with local Gage Roads beers on tap. There is also mini-golf and a playground, so it leans family and can get loud and busy, which is worth weighing if your dog is noise-shy. Weekends fill up, so book a table and mention you have a dog.

Getting there. 34 Hamersley Road, Caversham, roughly 20 to 30 minutes from the Perth CBD. There is a large on-site car park, so parking is rarely the problem.

The lawns are open and near the water, so keep the lead on and settled before the food arrives, especially with the crowds and mini-golf traffic around.

Come for a weekday lunch or an early weekend sitting if you want the calmer version. Good for social dogs who cope with a busy family crowd.
