Aomori Japanese

Aomori Japanese is a small family-run restaurant in the Middy's complex on Main Street, Buderim, doing fresh sushi and sashimi, ramen, rice bowls and Korean fried chicken. For dog owners it works two ways: there is outdoor seating where a settled dog can join you, and the kitchen's solid takeaway makes it an easy pick-up on the way home from a walk.

The dog setup

Dogs belong at the covered footpath seating outside the shop rather than indoors, and the family who run it are easygoing about well-behaved pets. Nothing is provided on the dog front, so bring a portable water bowl, keep your dog on a lead and out of the footpath flow. If the village is busy, the simplest plan is takeaway to go.

Pepsi: order the katsu ramen for yourself and take a bowl of water for me. The covered seats outside are the spot, but on a Saturday you will be doing takeaway because they are closed.

The vibe

It is a casual neighbourhood shop with a personal touch rather than a slick fit-out, and the regulars come back for the tonkotsu and chicken katsu ramen as much as the sushi. Hours are worth checking before you drive over: Monday runs 10.30am to 4pm, Tuesday to Friday 10.30am to 7pm, and the shop is closed Saturday and Sunday.

Getting there and parking

Aomori is at Shop 10, 29 Main Street, Buderim, in the Middy's complex. The complex has dedicated free parking right by the shops and there is street parking along Main Street, though the village gets busy at peak meal times. The complex is step-free and easy to work with a dog on a lead.

Make a day of it

With a takeaway bag in hand, the Elizabeth Daniels Park Fenced Dog Park gives your dog a proper run to earn dinner. For something quieter, the Thai Frenzy on Buderim is another Main Street dining option, and the Vandys Cafe up in the village covers the coffee run with water bowls on offer.
