Gochu korean and fish and chips

Gochu is a small family-run takeaway at 5 Peachester Road in the Beerwah town centre, cooking Korean street food and classic fish and chips side by side, everything made to order. It trades 11am to 7:30pm Tuesday to Sunday and closes Mondays. There is no dining room to speak of, so the dog-friendly version of Gochu is straightforward: order inside, step out to the footpath, then either eat there or carry the paper across town to a park bench with your dog settled beside you.

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas around this casual takeaway, and its business profile lists dogs as allowed outside. Footpath space out front is limited, so the practical move with a dog is to have one person hold the lead on the pavement while the other collects the order. No water bowls or dog treats are advertised, so pack your own, particularly through the hinterland summer.

Worth knowing

The kitchen covers Korean fried chicken burgers and bites with GochuBBQ, teriyaki and katsu sauces, battered or crumbed fish strips, skin-on chips, homemade potato scallops and calamari, plus rice boxes and spring rolls rolled fresh. Weekly specials are worth timing: a Korean fried chicken burger for ten dollars on Wednesdays and a fish and chips deal on Thursdays. Free street parking sits out front and on the side streets, and the shop is an easy stop if you are already walking through town.

Max: order the Korean fried chicken, then walk it five minutes up the road to the fenced park and eat while the dog runs. That is a good Tuesday.

Mill Park Fenced Dog Park a few minutes away on Simpson Street gives a secure off-leash run with shade, agility gear and dog water stations, which is the cleanest pairing with a takeaway dinner.
