Fed is the busy all-day cafe on the Dundas Place village strip in Albert Park, a short walk from the lake and a regular stop for local dog owners thanks to its footpath seating. It runs brunch-and-coffee pace rather than a long sit-down lunch, which makes it an easy mid-walk stop rather than a destination in itself.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out on Dundas Place; inside is for people and assistance dogs only, so aim for an outdoor seat. Water bowls are generally offered and staff tend to be accommodating, though carrying your own bowl never hurts on a hot morning. The footpath is tight when the strip is humming, so tuck your dog in close to the table.

The vibe

The kitchen is known for a brunch menu that runs to almond pancakes, eggs benedict, corn fritters, okonomiyaki and a jalapeno toastie, with keto and gluten-free options called out alongside solid coffee and chai. Service starts early, 6:30am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, and wraps by 4pm. Mid-week mornings are the quiet window; weekends fill fast and the footpath tables turn over quickly.

Getting there and parking

Fed sits on Dundas Place just off Bridport Street. Street parking on Dundas Place and the surrounding streets is competitive at peak times, and tram route 1 stops a short walk away. Coming on foot from the lake takes about ten minutes.

Close by with the dogs

Parks Victoria designates off-leash areas inside Albert Park itself, near the northern end by Albert Road and the western side by the Aughtie Drive sports fields, while the lake trail is on-leash. The park's off-leash area is a short walk away, and Gasworks Arts Park has an unfenced off-leash zone where dogs need to stay five metres from playgrounds and barbecues. Port Phillip's beaches are off-leash from 1 April to 31 October, with tighter summer rules, so check signage at the sand.
