Broger

Broger is a burger, hotdog and loaded-fries counter in the Kambri Precinct at Shop 11, 152 University Avenue on the ANU Acton campus. It is fast-casual with an open frontage, and dogs can sit with you at the outdoor plaza tables while you eat, with the wider campus doubling as genuinely pleasant leashed walking ground.

The dog setup

Broger's interior is small and dogs are not part of it, so the space that matters is the outdoor Kambri Plaza seating at the frontage. Under ANU's domestic animals procedure, dogs are allowed in outdoor campus areas under the control of a competent person, and any dog that is unattended, a nuisance or aggressive can be asked to leave. Individual traders can still set house rules at their own tables, so treat it like any shared courtyard: dog on lead, close to the table, and bring your own water bowl rather than counting on one.

Worth knowing

The menu covers a wide burger list including a truffle mushroom beef burger and a vegan option, plus loaded fries, onion rings and southern fried chicken. Hours run 11am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, from 11:30am on weekends. One thing to get right: the campus and the Sullivans Creek corridor are strictly on-lead, since ACT rules keep dogs leashed on and within 10 metres of paved commuter paths. This is campus ground, not an off-leash park.

Getting there and parking

Parking is via the paid Kambri car park, and on foot the precinct opens straight onto University Avenue. From the city side it is a flat walk across the bridge into campus.

Close by with the dogs

For off-lead time before or after, Haig Park Dog Agility Course in Braddon is a short drive away, and the Molonglo River and Lake Burley Griffin loop makes a proper on-lead walk to earn the loaded fries.
