Terrey Hills Tavern

Terrey Hills Tavern is the suburb's all-purpose local at 2 Aumuna Road, just off Mona Vale Road, combining a bistro, sports bar, kids' play area and live music with a genuine beer garden. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas, so the dog does not have to miss out on a pub lunch out this way.

The dog setup

Dogs stay in the outdoor beer garden and courtyard areas on a leash, and the indoor bistro and lounge are off limits under standard NSW food rules. The garden has room to park a dog beside the table, but bring your own water bowl rather than counting on one.

The tavern runs from 10am daily, with later closes on Friday and Saturday nights. Weekend afternoons bring kids, live music and full tables, so a weekday lunch is the calm window for a dog that is still learning to settle.

Pepsi: if your dog is noise-shy, skip the Sunday session entirely. Between the playground and the bands it can be a full-on soundscape.

The vibe

The kitchen leans hearty pub classics: the schnitzel and barramundi are the orders regulars come back for, with lamb shanks and seafood also featuring. Kids' and seniors' menus cover the family spread, and the sports bar keeps the screens running. It is casual rather than refined, exactly what you want after a walk in nearby Ku-ring-gai Chase.

Getting there

There is a large free car park on site. The tavern is roughly 30 minutes from the Sydney CBD and an easy run from anywhere on the Northern Beaches or Upper North Shore. On big event days, a quick call to confirm the beer garden setup is worth making before the drive.

Close by with the dogs

The Palms Sydney and the Tasting Deck are both dog friendly and only minutes away, and Tastebuds at the Hills does a nursery-garden coffee run on Mona Vale Road. For a pre-lunch run, the fenced off-leash park at the Terrey Hills Playing Fields on Myoora Road is close by.
