The Tasting Deck is the cafe attached to the Forestway Fresh produce market at 2 Myoora Road, Terrey Hills, and its big outdoor deck is comfortably dog-friendly. The clincher for dog owners is geography: the suburb's fenced off-leash dog park is up the same road, so a run and brunch make an easy double.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck, with room to settle beside the tables. Water is not a certainty, so pack a collapsible bowl. There is a kids' playground, so expect children about; a dog that is relaxed around small people will do best.

Good to know. The menu leans on produce from the market it sits in. Poached eggs, baked eggs, the wagyu burger and the reuben sandwich are the review favourites, and there is usually a special of the day worth asking about.

Getting there. Just off Mona Vale Road, with free off-street parking at the market.

Do the dog park first, then the deck. A dog that has already had its run is a far better brunch companion than one still waiting for it.

Nearby with the dogs. The fenced dog park at Terrey Hills Playing Fields is a couple of minutes up Myoora Road, and Terrey Hills Tavern is close by if the visit stretches to lunch.

Weekends bring the family rush; a weekday mid-morning is the relaxed version.
