The Palms Sydney

The Palms Sydney is a restaurant and bar built inside a plant nursery and homewares barn at 327 Mona Vale Road, Terrey Hills, and by the venue's own account every outside table is dog-friendly. Eating among the greenery with the dog at your feet is the whole draw, and it is a rare one this far north of the harbour.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at all the outdoor garden tables at The Eatery; the indoor dining rooms and retail spaces are people only. Keep the lead on and the dog close, because it is a working nursery with plants, stock and browsers moving through. Water bowls are usually about, but a collapsible bowl is cheap insurance on a warm day.

Pepsi: nursery dining means narrow paths and tempting pots. Pick a table on the outer edge of the garden so your dog has a clear patch of ground to settle on without people squeezing past.

Worth knowing

The plant-filled setting is what people mention first, closely followed by the food: wood-fired pizza, prawn linguine, ocean trout crudo and arancini get repeat calls, and it is fully licensed. Service runs mainly across breakfast and lunch, with dinner on selected nights, so check hours before planning an evening. Weekday mornings are the calm window; weekend lunch is the crowd, in the car park as much as at the tables.

Getting there

It sits on Mona Vale Road with a large free car park on site, which fills when the nursery is busy, so arrive early on weekends.

Close by with the dogs

The Terrey Hills Tavern takes well-behaved dogs in its beer garden if you want a second sitting, and Tastebuds at the Hills and The Tasting Deck round out an easy dog-friendly loop of the suburb.
