The Kangaroo Hotel

The Kangaroo Hotel is a country pub on High Street in Maldon, a heritage gold-rush town in central Victoria, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor beer garden and rear alfresco seating.

Getting there. The pub is at 89 High Street, in the middle of Maldon's historic main strip. Free street parking is available on High Street and the side streets.

Nearby with the dogs. Maldon's town centre is flat and walkable, with plenty of heritage buildings to see. Mount Tarrengower lookout is a short drive out of town and worth it for the views, though keep dogs leashed on the tracks.

When to go. A weekday lunch in the beer garden is the easy option, especially if there's live music on a weekend night when things get busier. Confirm dog rules haven't changed with the pub directly if you're planning a big group.
