The Fat Spatula

The Fat Spatula is a small creperie and coffee spot on Rathdowne Street in Carlton North's Rathdowne Village strip, a few minutes' walk north of Princes Park.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the small footpath seating out front, on a short lead given how busy the pavement gets. The shopfront itself is tight, so dogs stay outside rather than coming in. A water bowl is usually out for visiting dogs.

Known for. Savoury and sweet crepes and galettes, 5 Senses coffee, and sourdough crumpets that rotate through the menu. It's a small, high-energy team and a genuine neighbourhood spot rather than a destination cafe.

Getting there. It's in the middle of the Rathdowne Village strip. Street parking is available on Rathdowne Street and side streets such as Princes Street and Kay Street, though it gets competitive on weekends. The Route 1 tram on Nicholson Street is a short walk away.

Nearby with the dogs. Princes Park is just a few minutes' walk south, with both on-leash paths and large off-leash areas to burn energy off before or after coffee.
