Irish Murphy's

Irish Murphy's is a long-running Irish pub at 36 Sturt Street in the middle of the Ballarat CBD, doing hearty traditional pub food and live music in a heritage strip. The front footpath tables on Sturt Street are where a leashed dog joins you; the historic interior is not a dog space.

The dog setup

Dogs stay outside at the street-side seating, which suits a settled dog on a lead. There is no dedicated pet amenity setup, so pack a collapsible water bowl; the venue's own policy wording is to enquire about outdoor seating on the day, and staff configurations shift with weather and bookings. A quick call to the pub before a weekend visit is the safest play, and aim for a non-music session if your dog prefers calm.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs the classics: the signature Guinness pie, chicken parmas, Irish stew, lamb shanks and bangers and mash, served noon to 2:30pm and again 5:30pm to 8:30pm daily. The pub trades 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and to 1am Friday and Saturday. Live music is a fixture: Friday acts from 9pm, Saturday bands from 9:30pm, and a traditional Celtic jam Sunday from 2pm to 5pm, plus Guinness specials on Thursdays and free trivia Monday nights.

Getting there and parking

The pub sits on Sturt Street in the heart of the CBD, walkable from most of central Ballarat, with paid street parking along the boulevard. Sturt Street's wide plane-lined median makes an easy on-lead leg stretch before or after a meal.
