Woodville Fenced Dog Park

Woodville Fenced Dog Park, listed by the City of Charles Sturt as the Woodville Dog Park, sits at the corner of Glen Rowan Road and Oval Avenue in Woodville South. It is one of western Adelaide's more dependable fenced off-leash spaces: a big open grass reserve with mature shade trees and a steady crowd of local dog owners.

The rules

The area is fully fenced and designated off-lead, but council rules still require dogs to be under effective control at all times, which in practice means a recall you can trust. Dogs need to go back on a lead to move onto the surrounding footpaths or during any organised event in the reserve.

Owners are responsible for pick-up, and bins sit near the entrances, though the on-site doggy bags can run out, so carry spares. The gates are single rather than a double-gated entry, so keep a hand on your dog's collar while you swing them open.

Max: fenced does not mean you switch off. I stay near my dog when a new group arrives and keep a lead clipped and ready. Effective control is about attention, not just the fence line.

You get generous grass for a proper run, shade under established trees, a water tap, sheltered seating for humans, and barbecues nearby. A fenced children's playground with slides and climbing structures sits apart from the dog space, so it works as a genuine family reserve rather than a single-purpose dog park.

There are no public toilets on site, which matters if you are planning a long morning. Local obedience training groups also use the space on Sunday mornings, so expect extra dogs and handlers at those times.

Getting there

The park is in Woodville South SA 5011, a short drive off Port Road, with street parking around the reserve that tightens up on weekend mornings. Woodville railway station is close by with regular services to the city if you want to walk in from the train.

When to go

Weekday mornings and early evenings are the quiet windows, and the listed hours run 7am to 9pm on weekdays with longer access on weekends. Skirt Sunday mornings if your dog prefers calm, because that is when training groups tend to be in.
