Cambridge Park Fenced Dog Park

Cambridge Park Fenced Dog Park occupies a corner of Cambridge Park at 72 Hodges Crescent, Vincent, an inner suburb of Townsville a few minutes from the city centre. It is a fully fenced, dedicated off-leash enclosure open around the clock, and the reason dog owners cross town for it is the combination of secure fencing with real agility equipment.

The dog setup

The enclosure splits into separate gated zones for large and small dogs, so sizing up the crowd before committing is easy. Inside there is fixed agility equipment for active dogs, open grass for flat-out running, a water station with bowls, and shaded spots under mature trees with benches nearby. Waste bins and bag dispensers are generally stocked. Townsville City Council off-leash rules apply: dogs on-leash until you are fully inside and after you leave, owners staying with their dogs the whole time, and no aggressive behaviour tolerated.

Max: keep the lead on until the gate is shut behind you. The controlled entry is the whole point of a fenced park.

The vibe

A steady base of regulars keeps the ground picked up, and the enclosure sits alongside a general playground, so it is a family outing park as much as a dog park. Early mornings and evenings are the go in Townsville's heat, and you will share it with a mix of suburban dogs and agility practice in the afternoons. One gap to plan around: there are no human restrooms on site.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Hodges Crescent, with street parking along the frontage close to the gate. Vincent sits between Garbutt and Gulliver on the western side of the city, an easy few minutes from the Ring Road. Local bus routes along Garbutt's main corridors drop you within walking distance if you are not driving.

Close by with the dogs

Townsville Main Dog Park at Aitkenvale is the bigger off-leash option a few suburbs over, and Rossiter Park fenced dog park covers the other side of the city. For the post-park coffee, The Gypsea Collective in Mundingburra welcomes dogs out the back and Bamboozled Cafe in Currajong is on the way home.
