Karuah park off leash dog area

Karuah Park's off-leash area is the fenced eastern section beyond the creek, a shaded bushland enclosure under mature eucalypts rather than an open oval. It is one of the better-set-up fenced parks on the upper North Shore, with double-gate airlock entries that make arrivals and exits calm even with an excitable dog.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted only within the fenced eastern section, east of the creek, from sunrise to sunset. The grass sports oval and the rest of the park are on-leash. Dogs must be under effective control at all times, kept at least 10 metres from the playground, and leashed again the moment you leave the enclosure. Ku-ring-gai Council fines $275 for not picking up after your dog, so treat that as non-negotiable.

What's there. Three separate double-gate entries give a safe airlock for nervous dogs or ones prone to bolting. There's a water tap inside the fence, bench seating, and public toilets about 20 metres away near the on-leash section. Bag dispensers are not reliably stocked, so bring your own.

Getting there. The park is on Karuah Road, Turramurra. Parking is street-only along Karuah Road, and it's a short walk from Turramurra railway station, with local buses also servicing the area.

Nearby with the dogs. Replay Espresso, opposite Turramurra station, has an outdoor seating area set up for dogs and is an easy stop before or after a run around.

Go mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday for the quietest run of the enclosure. Good for dogs that settle better behind a fence than in open, unfenced ground.
