Kent Oval in South Turramurra is a large, flat, open sportsground that doubles as an off-leash area, unfenced and backing onto surrounding bushland and parkland. It suits dogs with solid recall rather than ones who need a fence to feel safe.

The rules. Off-leash is allowed at all times except when organised sport or school bookings are using the ground, so check before you arrive if you're heading down on a weekday afternoon. Because the oval is unfenced, your dog needs reliable voice control. Dogs are not permitted in the children's playground area, and there are no poop bags supplied on-site, so bring your own.

What's there. A dedicated car park, a drinking water station, picnic tables and benches, floodlighting for evening visits, and public toilets.

Getting there. The oval is at 48A Murdoch Street, South Turramurra, with a car park on-site. Turramurra station is the nearest train stop, followed by a bus or short drive.

Being unfenced and open to bushland, this one isn't the spot for a dog still working on recall. Keep a long line handy until you trust them off it here.

Nearby with the dogs. Turramurra Village on the Pacific Highway has several dog-friendly cafes within a five-minute drive, including Replay Espresso opposite the station.

Busiest Tuesday afternoons, Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons with local sport; mid-week mornings and late evenings are quieter. Good for confident dogs that don't need a boundary.
