Kent oval off leash dog area

Kent Oval in South Turramurra is a large, flat Ku-ring-gai Council sportsground that doubles as an off-leash dog area, unfenced and backing onto surrounding bushland and parkland. It suits dogs with solid recall rather than ones who need a fence to feel safe.

The dog setup

Off-leash is allowed when the ground is not in use, except during organised sport, training or school bookings, so check the field status before a weekday-afternoon visit; Ku-ring-gai's wet weather closure page is worth a look after rain. Dogs must be under effective control at all times, leashed entering and leaving the off-leash space, kept clear of the children's playground and picnic areas, and waste picked up immediately with no bags supplied on site, so bring your own.

Worth knowing

The oval has a dedicated car park, a drinking water station, picnic tables and benches, floodlighting and public toilets, and it shares the precinct with soccer and cricket fields and two hireable tennis courts. Because it is unfenced and open to bushland, this is not the spot for a dog still working on recall; keep a long line handy until you trust them off it here.

The oval sits at the end of Kent Road in South Turramurra, with an on-site car park. Turramurra station is the nearest train stop, followed by a bus up Kissing Point Road or a short drive.

The fully fenced South Turramurra Dog Oval on Vernon Street is the secure alternative a few minutes away, and Karuah Park off leash dog area covers the Turramurra side of the suburb. For a coffee afterwards, Replay Espresso near the station is dog friendly.
