A relaxed suburban reserve at 40-42 Clements Grove with open grass and native trees, open off-leash 24/7. It is an unfenced local spot that opens onto the surrounding streets, so it suits dogs with reliable recall rather than escape artists.

The rules. Carry a lead at all times and clip it on before leaving the area. Keep your dog under effective voice control, which matters here because the reserve is unfenced. Stay 10 metres clear of playgrounds and shared paths and 30 metres from barbecue areas. Remove your dog promptly if it is frightened or behaving aggressively, and clean up after it.

What's there. Informal grassy seating rather than full picnic facilities, and free street parking along Clements Grove and McMahon Road. Bring your own water for the dog to be safe.

Getting there. Reached via Cheddar Road or Edwardes Street onto Clements Grove. The nearest station is Reservoir on the Mernda line, with local buses on nearby main roads a short walk away.

Busiest weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons. Mid-morning or early afternoon midweek is quieter. As it is unfenced, save the busy, distracting times for dogs that stay close.
