A large open reserve at 45 Blake Street with wide playing fields, three rugby grounds on the west side and a sports oval to the east, ringed by grassy, tree-dotted edges. Plenty of room for a dog that needs to run.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice control, returning when called and leaving other park users and wildlife alone. Lead up within 15 metres of children's play equipment and in barbecue and picnic areas. Carry and use bags, and your dog should be council-registered and wearing its tag.

What's there. A drinking fountain with a ground-level dog bowl near the gym and playground, perimeter benches, and bins at the entry and exit points. The sports pavilion has public toilets during standard hours.

Getting there. Access is via Blake Street, where a gravel road leads to parking near the playground and fields. It is a short walk from Ruthven or Reservoir stations on the Mernda line, with local buses along Edwardes Street.

Busiest early morning and late afternoon on weekdays. Late morning to early afternoon is quieter. The grassy eastern edge gets muddy after heavy winter and spring rain, so keep a towel in the car, and glance across from the Blake Street entrance for active matches before letting your dog off lead.
