Alder Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a small neighbourhood reserve on Alder Court in Park Orchards, a quiet open patch of grass in a residential pocket under Manningham council rules. It is not a destination park; it is the kind of place locals walk to, and the draw is space and calm rather than facilities.

The dog setup

The reserve is an unfenced, open green, so off-leash time depends entirely on your dog's control. Council rules require effective voice control at all times, and the leash goes back on within about 15 metres of playgrounds, barbecue facilities or any organised sporting event, none of which belong to your dog. Dogs are not allowed in playgrounds or fenced sporting grounds at all. Carry waste bags and clear up after your dog, using the bins or taking it home.

There is no water fountain and no agility gear at a site this size, so bring a bottle and a bowl for anything longer than a quick throw-around.

If you want play equipment and barbecues after the run, the larger Park Orchards Reserve and Domeney Reserve nearby carry the full facilities this pocket park leaves out.

Getting there and parking

Reach the reserve off Park Road into the local streets, best approached by car or on foot from Warrandyte Road; direct bus access is limited. Parking is informal kerbside along the residential court beside the reserve, and it is never a struggle outside school pickup times.

Close by with the dogs

For a fully fenced alternative, the Aranga Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Donvale is the closest secure option, and the Dirlton Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is another quiet Manningham pocket in the same suburb.
