Golden Jubilee Field (Back Field)

Golden Jubilee Field is a large Ku-ring-gai sports reserve on Esk Street in North Wahroonga, and the back field is the part dog owners need to know about. Under Ku-ring-gai Council's off leash rules, the back field operates as the designated off leash dog area between 1pm and midnight every day of the week, with dogs required on leash outside those hours. That afternoon to evening window makes it a genuinely useful option for people who work mornings.

Leash status

The rules come from the council rather than hearsay: off leash is 1pm to midnight daily on the back field, and leashed at all other times. Council conditions also require dogs to stay at least 10 metres from playgrounds and food areas, so keep your dog clear of the playground zones on the reserve even during off leash hours. If a organised sport or an event is using the fields, the off leash access can be affected, so check the signage at the gate on your first visit.

The space

The reserve is a big, open grass field with the kind of sight lines that make recall training straightforward, and the back field position away from the street gives dogs room to run without constant distraction from passers by. Being a sports ground, the surface is maintained turf rather than bush track, and it drains reasonably well for the area. Bring your own water, as the reserve is not a dedicated dog park with installations like wash bays or agility gear.

The reserve is walkable from Wahroonga and Warrawee stations for anyone arriving by train, though both involve a solid walk uphill on the return. The afternoon off leash window means you arrive after the morning sport crowds have cleared, and parking is easiest from mid afternoon onward.
