Seagull Paddock Dog Park

Seagull Paddock is a large open off-leash reserve on the Norlane and North Geelong boundary, built around a central lagoon where dogs can swim. Wide running space plus a genuine water feature is the whole reason to make the trip, and a walking track circles the lagoon so it doubles as a scenic loop for less energetic dogs.

Leash status

The reserve is a City of Greater Geelong off-leash area, but it is not securely fenced, so the rules lean on effective control rather than an enclosure. Your dog must respond to commands and stay in sight at all times. On-lead rules apply in the surrounding public spaces and the car park unless signage says otherwise, and you must pick up after your dog, with penalties enforced under council rules. If your dog has weak recall or a strong chase instinct, this is not the park to test that.

Water and terrain

The lagoon is the centrepiece and works as a real swimming spot for water-loving dogs, though water levels fluctuate and the surrounds get soggy after heavy rain, so check conditions before you go. A gravel and dirt loop track circles the wetland and connects into the local path network. The reserve also hosts waterbirds, so keep dogs from harassing wildlife. Picnic tables sit near the main entries, and the ground is open grassland rather than a manicured park.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Birdwood Avenue, just off Melbourne Road on the Princes Highway corridor. The car park sits at the top of the hill with views over the reserve, and there is wheelchair-accessible parking and entrances. North Geelong station is a short distance away on the V/Line line, but with a dog and towels you will want the car.

Worth knowing

Clip the lead on before you leave the lagoon area and again at the car park, because council boundary rules are enforced and the park opens straight onto traffic corridors. Dogs prone to snacking on aquatic plants need watching around the reeds, and bring your own waste bags as backup since dispensers are not always stocked.
