Stead Park Dog Park

Stead Park Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area inside the larger Stead Park sporting reserve on the Princes Highway in Corio. It splits into separate active and passive zones, so a boisterous dog and a nervous one do not have to share the same run, and the high fencing plus double-gated entry make it a safe pick for owners who are not confident with recall.

The dog setup

The fenced dog park is off-leash, but the rest of the Stead Park reserve is not, so keep your dog leashed until you are through the gates. Carry a lead even inside: council rules require handlers to keep dogs under effective voice or visual control at all times, and any dog showing aggression needs to be restrained and removed. Pick up after your dog; waste bags and bins are supplied on site, but carry a spare anyway.

Inside the enclosure there is a water station, shaded seating for owners, and agility equipment scattered through the active zone. Parking at the reserve is free and usually easy to find outside peak times, and the wider complex adds toilets and a playground close by.

Max: Check the gate latch yourself before you let anyone off lead. Double-gated entries are only as safe as the last person who used them.

The vibe

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quiet windows; after-school hours and weekend mornings bring the regulars and their ball-obsessed dogs. The active zone can get rowdy at peak times, which is exactly what the passive zone is for. Being open 24 hours, it also works as a late-evening run under lights off the highway.

Getting there and parking

The park sits directly off the Princes Highway (A1), signposted as part of the Stead Park Sporting Complex, with free on-site parking. Corio Station is within walking distance if you come by train, and bus stops on Bacchus Marsh Road cover the carless.

Pair it with

Corio itself is light on dog-friendly cafes, so most owners drive the ten minutes into Geelong or Geelong West afterwards for outdoor-seating coffee. For another fenced run closer in, the Seagull Paddock Dog Park at Norlane is one suburb over.
