Stead Park Dog Park

Stead Park Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area inside the larger Stead Park sporting reserve on the Princes Highway in Corio. It splits into separate active and passive zones, so a boisterous dog and a nervous one do not have to share the same run, and the fencing plus double-gated entry make it a safe pick for owners who are not confident with recall.

The rules. The fenced dog park is off-leash, but the rest of the Stead Park reserve is not, so keep your dog leashed until you are through the gates. Bring a lead even inside the fenced area: council rules require handlers to keep dogs under effective voice or visual control at all times, and any dog showing aggression needs to be restrained and removed. Pick up after your dog. Waste bags and bins are supplied on site, but it pays to carry a spare.

What's there. The park has a water station, shaded seating for owners, and some dog agility equipment scattered through the active zone. Parking at the reserve is free and usually easy to find outside peak times.

Getting there. It sits directly off the Princes Highway (A1), signposted as part of the Stead Park Sporting Complex. Corio Station is within walking distance if you are coming by train, and there are bus stops nearby on Bacchus Marsh Road for anyone without a car.

Nearby with the dogs. Corio itself is light on dog-friendly cafes, so most owners head into Geelong or Geelong West afterwards, about a ten-minute drive, where there is a wider spread of outdoor-seating cafes and pubs. If you need food on the spot, there are fast-food options close to the reserve on the highway.

When to go. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest stretch. Expect a rush after work on weekdays, roughly 4:30 to 6pm, and busy mornings on weekends. If your dog is easily overwhelmed, use the passive zone and aim for an off-peak window.
