Moorpanyal Dog Area

Moorpanyal Dog Area covers the foreshore of Moorpanyal Park in North Shore, Geelong: a 24/7 off-lead stretch combining sandy beach access with open lawn overlooking Corio Bay, backed by sandstone cliffs and restored native grasslands. It is unfenced, so this is a spot for dogs with reliable recall rather than nervous escape artists.

Leash status

Off-lead access runs around the clock, every day of the week, across the beach and foreshore reserve. Effective voice control is the requirement since there is no boundary fence. Leashes go back on in the designated playground, barbecue and picnic areas within the wider park, so keep the zones straight as you move between them. Carry waste bags and clean up immediately.

Water and terrain

The beach is sandy and swimmable at high tide, but the shallow inner bay exposes mudflats at low tide, which turns a swim into a muddy exploration. Check the tide before you go if a proper swim is the goal. There are no water taps on site, so pack your own water and bowl. The cliff edges above the bay sit close to the open grass and are not fenced off, worth extra attention with young or boisterous dogs.

Getting there and parking

The park runs along The Esplanade in North Shore, with plentiful parking including lookout bays near the beach entrance. North Shore railway station is about a ten-minute walk, and the Spirit of Tasmania terminal is a short drive away, handy for arriving travellers.

When to go

Early mornings on weekdays are the quiet window. Weekends and sunny afternoons bring families and pickup in traffic. The foreshore cops strong wind during stormy weather, so pick your day. This suits confident dogs that swim and come back on command; bolt-prone dogs are better served elsewhere given the lack of fencing.
