Mount Louisa Dog Park

Mount Louisa Dog Park, known to the council as High Vista Park, is a fully fenced off-leash area at 468 to 488 Bayswater Road in Mount Louisa. The secure perimeter with gated entry is the defining feature: a broad, open green space with shade trees where any breed can run without you watching the fence line, and where a dog still learning recall has a safe place to practise.

The dog setup

The fenced enclosure is off-leash only. Dogs go on lead before entering and immediately upon leaving the gates, and inside they must stay under effective voice control. Waste bins sit on site and owners are expected to clean up; if a dog shows aggression, it comes out straight away, and you are responsible for filling in any holes your dog digs. The enclosure itself is spacious and grassy with large shade trees and bench seating, though there is no lighting, so it is a daylight park.

Max: the full perimeter fence gives you a clear boundary, but voice control is still mandatory inside. Use it to sharpen the recall before you trust it anywhere open.

The vibe

This is a local neighbourhood park rather than a destination, and the broader reserve covers the whole family: a children's playground with slides and swings, a basketball court and public toilets sit beside the dog area. Keep dogs away from the playground side. Mornings and late afternoons draw the regulars, with the middle of the day quiet, as you would expect in Townsville's heat.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Bayswater Road in Mount Louisa, central to Townsville's western suburbs, with the Bruce Highway and Dalrymple Road the nearest major routes. Accessible parking is available on site. It is a driver's park, with no confirmed bus route serving the immediate street.

Close by with the dogs

Rossiter Park Fenced Dog Park at Aitkenvale is the alternative fenced run about ten minutes south, and Riverside Green Park in Douglas adds separate small and large dog sections. For an after-park coffee, Vitti Cafe on Gregory in North Ward keeps dog-friendly outdoor seating.
