Banjo Patterson Dog Park

Banjo Patterson Dog Park sits within Banjo Paterson Reserve in Lynbrook, in Melbourne's outer south-east, next to the Lynbrook Family and Community Centre. It is a fully fenced City of Casey off-leash park built into a large district-level open space, which makes it an easy, low-stress run for suburban dogs.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully fenced, so dogs can run and socialise without bolt risk at the gate line. The reserve around it adds open grass, paths and a playground, so you can combine an off-leash session with a longer on-lead lap of the reserve.

The enclosure itself is grassed and open rather than cluttered with obstacles, which suits ball games and greeting rituals alike. Shade is limited, so time the hot months for early morning and bring water for both ends of the leash. Bins sit near the entry, and the fencing is tall enough to settle most fence-runners.

As with Casey's other dog spaces, keep your dog under effective control, carry your own bags as a backup, and give the gate area room before clipping the lead off.

Worth knowing

The park is a newer addition to Casey's network, having gone through the council's community consultation before being built, and it is still settling into a regular crowd. Public toilets sit at the adjacent community centre, which is handy for longer visits with kids in tow.

Max: quiet weekday mornings are the sweet spot here. Weekends build through the morning as the playground next door fills up, so pick your corner accordingly.

Getting there

The dog park is accessed via 25 River Redgum Place, Lynbrook VIC 3975, with local parking around the community centre and reserve frontage. Lynbrook station on the Cranbourne line is within walking distance, and the reserve sits just off the South Gippsland Highway side of the suburb.
